Forza Motorsport: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Forza Motorsport?

Forza Motorsport is the first fully customizable driving simulator for Xbox. Feel the pride of owning over 200 models from Nissan, Honda, Ferrari, Porsche, Tommy Kiara, and over 40 other manufacturers. Players express themselves with endless visual customization options from 150 aftermarket brands, a million unique paint schemes, and enough decals for every car imaginable — then make it roar on the road with engine upgrades from turbo kits to engine swaps.

More information can be found in our game information area.

What makes Forza Motorsport different from other racing games?

Forza Motorsport is a simulation racer, meaning that many real life aspects such as understeer/oversteer, tire wear, damage and tuning play a vital part of the game.

Furthermore, Forza Motorsport does not only allow you to tune the performance of your car, but also allows you to upgrade the interior and exterior of the car. Think of buying new rims, a bodykit or painting your car with 600 layers of decals and logo’s.

What is Forza Motorsport's career mode about?

Forza Motorsport features an extensive career mode. This career mode will force the player to choose a region at the beginning of the game. Choosing Europe as your region will mean that parts and vehicles from the United States or Japan are more expensive and more rare.

A player can work his way through the Amateur class to Professional to Championship and finally Endurance. Perhaps a more notable feature is the fact that Forza Motorsport allows a player to earn credits and unlock cars in the career mode by racing on Xbox Live.

I have never tried simulation racing before. Do I stand a chance?

Even though the level of physical simulation is very high, Forza Motorsport progressively teaches the player about the ins and outs of real racing. Tire heat, wear, camber, grip, weight shifting etc. will be gradually explained.

Forza Motorsport allows you to turn on aids: Stability Management, Traction Control and Anti-Lock Braking System. Also, you can opt to display a suggest line on the road helping you to find your entry, apex and exit points and speeds. Players are rewarded with bonuses when they disable driving aids.

What is this Drivatar™ people are writing about?

Forza Motorsport introduces an A.I. technology called “Drivatar”. This technology learns to drive like you by watching you and emulating the way you drive.

This is useful when you need to drive a long endurance race — in which case you let the “Drivatar” drive for you. There is just one catch: you need to pay a large fee if you wish to make use of your “Drivatar” for a race.

More information can be found at the Drivatar website: http://www.drivatar.com/

What kind of racing can be found in Forza Motorsport?

Besides the general circuit racing, you can find point-to-point, autocross and street racing as well.

  • Point to point: Race your way from point A to point B.
  • Autocross: Time-based racing on small track layouts.
  • Street racing: Generally found in circuits based in cities such as New York or Tokyo.
Tell me about Xbox Live multiplayer!

As every other Triple A Xbox title, Forza Motorsport comes with a large amount of Xbox Live functionality. A player can trade or sells cars online, create car clubs, race events to improve his ELO ranking and join games through Quickmatch or Optimatch.

Because the game offers such an extensive painting functionality, it is very unlikely you will see the same car twice.

How does damage affect your car’s performance?

When damage is set on full simulation your car will wear and degrade over in a race. Your tires wear off and parts such as suspension, engine and brakes can damage. As one of the few simulation games, Forza Motorsport also implements visual damage. Scraping a wall will leave scratches on your car and paint on the wall.

At the end of each race, a player will need to pay for the damage done to his car. Damage will result in time penalties added to your laptime, so there’s no chance to cut corners to get that extremely fast lap.

How does Forza Motorsport help me in building a good setup?

Forza Motorsport’s replay system allows the player to examine telemetry data. Anything from forces to suspension travel, camber, grip levels, lateral and accelerative forces, tire load and temperature.

During free runs a player can alter his setup in real time, so you will not need to reload every time you make a small change. It is recommend to alter one aspect of your setup at a time — if your car’s performance is negatively impacted, then you will not need to search for the culprit.

How are pitstops implemented in Forza Motorsport?

As your tires wear and your fuel runs out, you will need to start thinking about pitstop strategies if you wish to keep that lead. Especially in Endurance races pitstops play a vital part of racing.

The pitcrew is capable of performing repairs on your car’s performance systems, but not on anything exterior related.
